On 23 October 2024, the EMU Lab hosted its latest event, featuring Pierre Moscovici, former European Commissioner, Vice-president of the European Parliament and Minister for the Economy and Finance. Moscovici delivered a compelling lecture addressing the EU's ongoing political and economic challenges.

Moscovici identified four main contemporary challenges affecting the continent: climate change, the economic crisis, geopolitical tensions, and the fragility of democratic foundations.

"In the face of these challenges, the EU has neither remained silent nor blind. Instead, it has succeeded in proposing solutions that are not just bandages but have contributed to deep structural reforms of our governance, thus strengthening the European construction. Yet, many unresolved issues still await solutions", said Moscovici.

He emphasised the need to strengthen democratic frameworks to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes, drawing on his extensive experience in European governance.

Moscovici urged the audience, saying "As the leaders of tomorrow, we count on you to play a pivotal role in shaping this future and ensuring the success of the European project. Your engagement and commitment will be essential to building a resilient and united Europe. It will not be an easy task, I’ll give you that, but always remember that despite the hurdles, the European Union’s collective strength and shared values make the effort worthwhile for a peaceful, prosperous future".

The event garnered significant attention from both policy and academic circles.
