The Policy Leader Fellowship offers a transformative opportunity for mid-career professionals to shape policymaking and drive cross-border solutions. Fellows spend five to ten months at the Florence School of Transnational Governance (STG), part of the European University Institute (EUI), where they address critical policy areas such as climate change, digital governance, migration, global health, and economic inequality.
Nestled within the EUI—renowned for its cutting-edge research, engagement with top policymakers, and focus on global political and societal challenges—this programme provides a dynamic environment for innovation and exchange.
The programme
The fellowship welcomes its ninth cohort to the Florence STG’s flagship programme, which prioritises real-world impact alongside knowledge-building, offering a career-enhancing experience for participants. As Nicolas Azocar, a PLF alumnus, shares:
“The PLF has positively, personally, professionally, and academically changed my life. It has been a remarkable and profound experience, a complete turning point. In professional terms, I acquired new skills, learned knowledge, and increased my network on climate change. In personal terms, I made new friends; I interacted with people from dozens of countries, which allowed me to develop a multicultural understanding.”
Fellows benefit from professional workshops, tailored skills training, and full access to the vibrant academic life of the EUI to advance their policy projects.
Participants will make use of the EUI resources, space, and networks to refine an existing project or create a new one from the ground up. Throughout their stay, fellows are an integral part of the school’s community contributing with their expertise and professional experience to teaching and training activities, and supporting faculty, fellow researchers and learners across campus. The fellows also lead the STG Talks, held weekly at Palazzo Buontalenti — a forum for exchanging insights on global policymaking issues.
Upon the completion of the programme, the fellows join a global alumni network and have access to lifelong training opportunities at the EUI. Candidates from all over the world are welcome to apply, regardless of nationality. While there is no age limit, applicants are expected to have at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
Applications close on Thursday, 24 January 2025 at 14.00 CET.
