Programme Description

The Academy of European Law holds two summer courses each year, on The Law of the European Union and on Human Rights.

The 2024 course on Human Rights will be held in a new format: a 'documentary role play'. Participants will be required to actively participate and perform the play in person

Summer Course on Human Rights: 17 - 28 June 2024:

  • Participants’ re-enactment of parts of the Ongwen trial, based on a script edited by Sarah Nouwen and Wouter Werner
  • Discussion of key themes such as the politics of international criminal justice, responsibility, duress, victim-perpetrators, the role of victims in international criminal law, opening and closing statements and the press conference
  • Critical reflection sessions led by experts among whom Barney Afako, Warner ten Kate, Liana Minkova, Lino Owor Ogora and Sofia Stolk.
