Biography

Emilio completed his PhD on the Colombian armed conflict at King’s College London (KCL) in 2016. He also holds an MA in Politics (The New School for Social Research) and an MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights (Utrecht University).

His current research focuses on the legalisation of armed conflicts, global politics and regional powers, interventions in the Global South, and transitional justice initiatives in Latin America, Africa, and Europe.

Previously, he was a Research Associate at the Graduate Institute’s Centre on Conflict, Development & Peacebuilding (CCDP) in Geneva, working mostly on the impact of violence, conflicts, and disasters on the world of work. He was also a Junior Visiting Fellow at the CCDP between September 2014 and March 2015. Before pursuing PhD studies at KCL, Emilio worked at the International Criminal Court (ICC), Eurojust, and the UN-backed Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG).

Within the Florence STG, he is currently attached to the Peace and Security Focus Area and to the Young African Leaders Programme (YALP), funded by the European Commission.
