Biography
Anna Sobczak is a permanent official of the European Commission (civil servant) with over 14 years' experience in policy making across various European Commission services and policies including energy, climate, industry, innovation, skills, regions and cities as well as enlargement, trade and external relations.
Currently affiliated with Directorate-General for Energy, she is responsible for developing initiatives, tools and policies in support of a just transition of coal regions, which help local communities to mitigate socio-economic consequences of the transition and to unlock their new potential through clean energy transition and economic diversification towards climate neutrality in the framework of EU Green Deal.
As an EU Social Media Ambassador, she is actively involved in EU Dissemination and Awareness Raising Campaign followed by over 21.000 professionals on LinkedIn. In addition, as an alumna of the EC Female Talent Development Programme and a member of ENER equality network, she actively supports women and young people in their professional careers.
In Anna’s previous capacity at Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), she was responsible for policy initiatives that support and connect small and medium-sized enterprises, ecosystems and clusters, focusing on industrial modernisation, innovation, upskilling, smart specialisation and new industrial value chains. At DG GROW, she also worked on policy developments in industrial sectors across the EU and European Neighbourhood countries, which included economic and trade analysis, Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTA) negotiations and the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue on the textile industry. At Directorate-General for Regional Policy (DG REGIO), she was involved in audit reports related to various regional funds and programmes.
In addition to her experience in EU institutions, Anna Sobczak has 8 years’ practical experience in business consultancies and academic research. She has a Doctorate Degree in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute, a Master in International Economic and Political Relations from the Krakow University of economic and an Erasmus MA in Urban and Regional Change in Europe from the University of Durham.
