Biography

Carlotta Sorba is Professor of Cultural History at the Department of History at the European University Institute and Professor of Modern History at the Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences and the Ancient World, University of Padua.

She is a cultural historian of 19th century Europe with special research interests in the relationship between cultural production (music, theatre, proto-mass culture), society and politics. She has also recently worked around a material history of politics in 19th-century Europe and is coordinating a collective project of census, analysis and interpretation of political objects in Risorgimento Italy. Her current research focuses on the actress Adelaide Ristori, as one of the first global celebrity.
