Christopher Hurst works on climate change and with a focus on innovation, finance, and the inclusion of climate considerations in investment decisions. He is interested in increasing the role of sustainability in business choices, and more generally in improving decision making for public policy. He worked for three decades at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, spending the last 11 years there as the Director General of the Projects Directorate. In this capacity, he was the principal architect of the transformation of the EIB to the "Climate Bank" including the introduction of policies to align EIB operations with the goals of the Paris Agreement.He was also responsible for the development of EIB sector strategies as well as the definition and implementation of technical, economic, environmental, and social standards for EIB projects.Prior to the EIB he was a management consultant in the USA and an academic at Oxford University and Imperial College, London working on energy policy.He has a Doctorate from Harvard University, USA and a First Class Honours Degree in Engineering from Imperial College, London.
