Biography

Geert van Calster is full professor at Leuven Law, holding the chairs of private international law, arbitration law, and trade and investment law.
Prof van Calster is a College of Europe Alumnus (Stefan Zweig, 1994), and served as head of the department of International and European Law at Leuven Law for 11 years, between 2009 and 2020. Geert is also a visiting professor at King’s College (London) and Monash (Melbourne) School of Law, as well as a senior fellow at Melbourne University Law School.
Dr van Calster is a practicing member of the Belgian Bar with a practice focused on international commercial litigation and regulatory law (particularly environmental law). He serves on behalf of the European Union on a variety of dispute settlement Panels under Free Trade Agreements such as CETA – the Partnership Agreement with Canada, and the UK-EU TCA.
He is currently on sabbatical leave, first as visiting fellow at St Catherine College, Oxford and currently and until the summer, as visiting fellow at the EUI (hosted by prof Scott).
