Biography

As a Max Weber Fellow, Ken Stiller is working on the conceptualisation of transnational public authority and the institutional design of cooperation. This multi-dimensional project comprises theoretical work, the creation of a database as well as the analysis of the role of the public perception of foreign states and societies. In a separate project building upon his previous work, he will prepare for publication his research on the collective agency of trading blocs.

Ken received his DPhil in International Relations from Nuffield College, University
of Oxford. Prior to this, he obtained a master’s degree (distinction) in International
Relations, also at the University of Oxford, where he was an Adam von Trott scholar.

Before academia, Ken gained experience working for international organisations,
such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the German Federal
Foreign Office and the United Nations Development Programme, a non-governmental environmental organisation, as well as the Chilean institute for local and regional studies.

Ken is interested in the design of public policies that reach beyond states, the political economy of institutions and quantitative methods. In his DPhil dissertation, Ken analysed the agency of trading blocs in international relations and the role of state capacity in the design of international cooperation. Ken has experience teaching methodology classes such as Data Analysis in R and Causal Inference at undergraduate and graduate level.
