Biography

I'm a socio-economic historian of the early modern period with particular interests in the history of commerce, finance, and shipping. My research concerns how informal networks, migration, and institutions interact and shape economic and commercial behaviour this period. I wrote my PhD thesis on the Italian merchants of seventeenth-century Amsterdam at the European University Institute. Afterwards, I was a lecturer at the chair group of Early Modern History at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. As a member of the CAPASIA project, I will work mostly with the archive of the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
