Michael O’Sullivan is a historian of South Asia and the Middle East. He received his PhD in History from UCLA in 2019. Prior to joining EUI, he was a fellow at the Center for History and Economics at Harvard University from 2020-2022 and a fellow in Islamic Law and Civilization at Yale Law School from 2019-2020. His interests focus mainly on the economic histories of Muslim communities living between the Balkans and Bali over the past five centuries. A monograph on the histories of three Gujarati Muslim commercial castes will be published by Harvard University Press in 2024. As CAPASIA Senior Fellow, his research will be concerned primarily with intra-Asian trade and the institutions that underpinned it.
