Tomás Budí-Ors is a PhD candidate in Economics at CEMFI (Madrid). Prior to his PhD, hecompleted an MA in Economics and Finance at CEMFI and a BSc in Economics at Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, Spain).

Tomás is a macroeconomist with a research interest in economic development, spatial economics, and firm dynamics. His current research agenda focuses on identifying the relevant frictions hindering structural transformation and macroeconomic development, with a particular emphasis on understanding the role of spatial frictions. During his PhD, he also explored the implications of differences in firm dynamics across cities for regional inequality and aggregate productivity. His work leverages a combination of carefulempirical analysis using micro-data with quantitative macroeconomic models thatincorporate tools from the international trade literature.

As a Max Weber Fellow, Tomás aims to collaborate with other MW Fellows, EUI Faculty, and PhD Researchers in the Economics department to pursue his research agenda on structural transformation and firm dynamics by completing ongoing projects and starting new ones. He also seeks to contribute to the Institute's environment by regularly participating in academic and social events.
