Research project

Artificial intelligence, algorithms, markets and competition

This project has received funding via the EUI Research Council calls 2019 and 2020.

Autonomous algorithms powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) are spreading in markets for several purposes. For example, pricing strategies are nowadays often delegated to algorithms, not only in sectors such as energy or finance but also in mass online marketplaces.

Although AI in markets can boost efficiency, the effects of interacting autonomous algorithms on market outcomes and competition are mostly unknown, as well as the proper enforcement tools for antitrust authorities.

This long standing and ambitious research project aims at studying the consequences of algorithms in markets and possible policy remedies.
