Research project The Italian-Swiss diaspora press in 20th century San Francisco Print Share on Facebook Share on X Share on LinkedIn Send by email This project has received funding via the EUI ESR call 2025, dedicated to Early Stage Researchers. How and why do diaspora communities bound by a language but separated by a nationality differentiate themselves? This project shall examine the case studies of L’Elvezia and La Colonia Svizzera – two Italian-language newspapers of the Swiss diaspora - and compare them with the Italian L’Italia to uncover points of convergence, divergence, and differentiation in the Italian-speaking diasporas of early 20th Century San Francisco. This will contribute to our understanding as to the strategies diaspora communities that shared a language and lived side by side adopted to maintain a distinct national identity.
