Course Abstract:
This is a course in financial economics discussing methodologies frequently employed in empirical banking and finance. It will be enriched by frequent references to empirical applications from the area of banking and finance. The focus is on an intuitive grasp of the methods and identification strategies, not on the presentation of rigorous proofs. The students will be required to thoroughly read the papers discussed in class.
A typical lecture will involve a discussion of famous empirical papers in the field of financial economics, with a main focus on understanding their identification strategy.
The grade will be based on a take-home exam and/or a presentation of a research proposal for a doctoral thesis paper.
