Purpose
The workshop on computational social science brings together researchers from sociology and political science to explore how computational methods can illuminate patterns in human behavior and social interactions. We will use cutting-edge techniques in natural language processing for analyzing social media discourse, network analysis approaches for mapping community structures, and machine learning applications for predicting social phenomena. Part of the course is focused on the ethical considerations of using big data in social research, including privacy concerns and algorithmic bias. The interactive workshop will allow attendees to gain hands-on experience with a variety of libraries in R and Python, concluding with applications to research in computational social science across disciplines and research topics.
