The last transfer of Commission archives gives new input to the history of European integration. 761 files enriched the CEAB fonds concerning the European Coal and Steel Community (1952-1967) and another 472 files were added to the already consistent collection of BAC files referring to Communities conceived in 1958 and which continued after the merger of 1967 and beyond.
The CEAB files contain series on finance, budget and coal production. A lot of the files have final dates pre-1970, because they cover affairs initiated 1967 years and carried out after the institutional date limit.
The new BAC accruals cover sensitive matters like Euratom affairs and research projects, but interesting insights are now available for the early 1980s, for instance on social policy, agricultural policy and new files on the Commission programme on the fight against poverty. This fundamental deal started just in 1978 and earlier files bear witness on how such action impacted on the European Communities. For the same period, relevant files illustrate the community relations with the textile industry and other new European initiatives in the external relations.
The Commission fonds are freely accessible for consultation. Reproduction of the documents is free and with no limit on copies.
