Seminar 'Europe and its identities' at Villa Salviati

Posted on 29 May 2015

On June 10 the Historical Archives of the European Union will host the seminar “Europe and its identities”, organized with the Università degli Studi di Firenze and the Università di Siena. The seminar will be part of the Historical Studies PhD program and will consist of different sessions in which Europe’s identity issues will be considered from several perspectives.

The lectures will address topics such as Christianity in Europe from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age, the political concept of “Mitteleurope” and its link to the definition of European identity up to the Great War, the redefinitions of European memory in the twentieth century and the issues that arise from a common European memory. The last session will focus on how these definitions were influenced by the creation of the European Parliament. The students will also have the opportunity to visit the archives at Villa Salviati. The day will end with a final debate moderated by the EUI professor Federico Romero.
