Practical workshop at the Historical Archives of the European Union

Posted on 04 September 2015

News Scuola ArchivisticaEvery Friday during the month of July seven students from the Florence School of Archives participated in a weekly workshop in order to get more acquainted with the real processing of archival documents. The Antonio Cassese fonds of private papers was available for the students to carry out these activities, which took place at the De Gasperi Room in Villa Salviati.

Students showed their interest in working within a more international context than the one they had seen during their studies at the State Archives and remarked the possibility of handling different kinds of documents thanks to the availability of individual deposits. Being able to approach this labor as a work group allowed them to discuss thoroughly the management of files from the moment in which they are handed to the archives to their description and organization, confronting different ideas and procedures learnt at the School.

On the last day of the course, participants gave a presentation in which they explained the several tasks carried out during the workshop. This last summary enabled them not only to get feedback from their classmates; it also gave them the opportunity to set forth doubts arising during the archival process that would eventually be resolved through the expert opinion of the archivists of the HAEU.
