eabh's historical records open for consultation at the HAEU

Posted on 08 April 2016

The archival material of the eabh: European Association for Banking and Financial History e.V. deposited at the Historical Archives of European Union (HAEU) are now open for consultation on site.

The European Association for Banking History e.V. was founded on 29 November 1990 in an inaugural meeting at the premises of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt am Main. The Association, eabh, was constituted by 22 banks and one academic institution. It acts as a bridge between archivists of banking institutions, historians and bankers. eabh creates a European network for research into banking history and is explicitly intended to contribute to the European integration in the sector of culture and science by studying and fostering research.

eabh’s fonds has been deposited at the Archives by a contract signed between the Director of the Archives, Dieter Schlenker, and the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management Hugo Bänziger and Manfred Pohl on 22 of April 2014. The material was transferred to Florence in the following summer (2014).

The fonds contains 280 archival paper files that dates back to the early days of eabh in 1989. The material includes, for instance, the founding history, correspondence by the members of the governing bodies, publication material, and also photographs. The files cover the years from 1989 to 2013 and some documents dating to 2014.

The eabh archival fonds is open and accessible for consultation at the HAEU’s premises at Villa Salviati in Florence.
