On 8 June the Historical Archives of the European Union will host the seminar Europa/Oriente: Divergenze, convergenze, interazioni organized by the Università degli Studi di Firenze and the Università di Siena jointly with the European University Institute. It will take place at Villa Salviati from 9:30 until 16:30.

The event is the second edition of this joint yearly seminar at Villa Salviati, which started in June 2015 with a conference on “Europe and its identities”. It is part of the joint Historical Studies PhD program of the Universities of Florence and Siena.

The lectures will cover such topics as “European liberty versus Turkish despotism? Debates on the Ottoman Empire and its relation to Europe in the 18th century” and “Russian identity in 900s. A troubled confrontation with Europe”. EUI Professor Federico Romero will conclude the seminar.
