New edition of the HAEU educational programme launched

Posted on 10 January 2017

The new edition of the Historical Archives of the European Union’s educational programme, “A New Treaty for Europe”, was launched on 17 November 2016 in collaboration with Firenze Città Metropolitana. The programme is designed for high schools and will run until the end of February 2017. 16 school classes from 10 different Florentine metropolitan schools participate in the project.

The programme is intended to explain the main features of the European integration process, the functioning of the EU institutions and the EU’s Educational policies. Every class has two lectures; one at the school on the history of European integration and the EU institutions and another one at the HAEU with specific focus on educational policies in the EU.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the HAEU, under the patronage of the Italian Prime Minister’s Office, has also announced a contest for the Florentine high schools: the “A New Treaty for Europe” programme. All the participating classes discuss and propose main elements for a new Treaty reforming the Educational Policy of the European Union with a view of educating students all over Europe towards a common European citizenship.

The final proposals of the participating classes are submitted to a jury, composed of members of the HAEU and the Education Directorate of the Firenze Città Metropolitana, which will decide on the winning proposals. The winners will participate in a national activity within the frame of the celebrations of the 60 years of the Roman Treaties.

From March 2017 onward, the HAEU will also launch its yearly educational programme for primary and secondary schools within the framework of “Le Chiavi della Città”, an educational project of the city of Florence.
