Robert Hull papers available for consultation

Posted on 03 October 2017

The papers of Robert Hull are now available for research at the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence. The papers were deposited at the Archives in 2015 and consist of 73 files.

The collection covers Hull’s extensive career in the European Commission, consisting of official statements, papers, correspondence, and administrative documents produced during his career. It covers the role that Hull played in developing working relationships between the Commission and Association of South East Asian Nations (1979-1982), and the Euro Arab Dialogue (1986-1990), both while he was Desk Officer in the Directorate General for External Relations.

Hull also played an important role in developing European environmental policy as Head of the Division for Policy Coordination in the Directorate General for the Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection (1994-1998). Later he was Director of Joint Services for the European Economic and Social Committee, and the Committee of the Regions (1998-2002).

The fond reflects the varied workings of the European Commission. It gives important insight into the early development of economic relations between both Gulf/Arab countries, South East Asian nations and the European Commission, as well as the development of environmental policy.
