Malta’s ambassador to Italy and the EUI High Council representative for Malta visited the Historical Archives of the European Union on 3 July 2018.
Dieter Schlenker, Director of the HAEU, welcomed Vanessa Frazier, Malta’s ambassador to Italy since 2013, and Professor Tanya Sammut-Bonnici, Pro-rector of Strategic Planning and Enterprise at the University of Malta and EUI High Council representative for Malta, to Villa Salviati.
Malta officially became a member of the European University Institute on 8 June 2018, joining 23 other European states. With the accession, aspiring academics from Malta will have the opportunity to apply for a four-year Ph.D. grant at the EUI.
At the Historical Archives, H.E. Frazier and Prof Sammut-Bonnici had the chance to examine key documents, which encapsulate Malta’s relationship with the European Union and its predecessors. These include documents from the Archives of the European Parliament containing agreements between the EEC and Malta, as well as, documents from the Maltese representation to the EC. Their visit ended with a guided tour of Villa Salviati and its gardens.
