The papers of the former President of the European Parliament Enrique Barón Crespo are now available for consultation at the Historical Archives of the European Union and the inventory is available online.
The papers were deposited at the Archives in September 2015 and consist of eight dossiers. They comprise speeches given by Barón Crespo during his time as President of the European Parliament, from July 1989 to January 1992 and interviews, articles and addresses delivered by Barón Crespo from 1992 to 1995. The papers also contain copies of meetings minutes with Governmental representatives and minutes of inter-institutional conferences, from 1990 to 1991.
Enrique Barón Crespo graduated in law from the University of Madrid and in business at the ESSEC Business School in Paris, he was a Deputy in the Spanish Cortes Generales from 1977 to 1987 and Minister of Transport, Tourism and Communications during the period 1982-1985. He served as first Spanish President of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1992 and he was chair of the Party of European Socialists from 1992 to 2004. He was elected MEP in the European Parliament for the Party of European Socialists until 2009.
