The HAEU is pleased to inform on the launch of the new website www.citizens-4-europe.eu by the Action Group of Bobenthal - St. Germanshof e.V., presented today, Friday 31 January 2020, to the press.
Since its foundation in 2003, the Action Group has aimed to serve the well-being of the Bobenthal village community and to promote the village, situated at the Franco-German border. Since 2016, the Action Group has focused on the European dimension of the village’s history, in particular the revolutionary events of 1950 in St. Germanshof, the presence of the European Monument and the development of a dialogue between young people in Europe.
The new online platform launched by the Action Group centers around three topics: the student demonstration at the border crossing at St. Germanshof on August 6, 1950; the plans for a new capital of Europe; and the eventful history of the border area between Bobenthal and Wissembourg.
These three themes are presented through texts, images, historical documents and, above all, three videos that were specially created for this purpose. The videos displayed on the website and on YouTube are available in German, French and English and include exciting interviews with witnesses. The online textual content is available in more than 100 other languages thanks to an integrated translation tool, in order to reach the largest possible audience in Europe and beyond.
This new website also serves as a platform for citizens, and in particular European youth, to exchange and organize joint activities, such as the event planned for the summer 2020 to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1950 student demonstration. In view of this anniversary, the association Action Group of Bobenthal - St. Germanshof e.V is developing measures to upgrade the European Monument and the associated information boards in cooperation with the community of Dahner Felsenland. With the financial support of the Action Group, an initiative group is also preparing an event with students, scheduled for September 26, 2020, to commemorate the 1950 student demonstration.
