The inventory of the historical files of the European Consumer Organisation (Bureau européen des unions de consommateurs – BEUC) is now available online; the files are consultable at the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) following the general and specific consultation rules regarding access to archival materials.
The BEUC historical archival were deposited at the HAEU in September 2018 under the terms of a deposit contract signed on 12 April 2018 between BEUC and the HAEU. The files created by BEUC are generally made available 15 years after their creation; those created by the European Institutions are opened after 30 years.
The BEUC fonds currently consists of 923 files for a total of approximately 28 meters: 889 paper files and 40 electronic files, of which a small number of files exist as both. The files cover BEUC's functions and all of its activities in its various spheres of action from 1972 to 2017. BEUC’s activities include the preparation of studies, reports, and opinions, participation in advisory and expert groups, the organisation of conferences, seminars, press conferences as well as teaching and training seminars.
The fonds also includes 22 files regarding the creation and activities of the European Consumer Law Group (ECLG) from 1977 to 2005 as well as a rich collection of communication and corporate materials produced by BEUC over the years.
