Posted on 27 May 2020

New files from the Council of the European Union transferred to Florence from the Council’s Archives Service along with their detailed inventories are now available for consultation digitally on the HAEU database.

A first new set of files concerns the legal acts (‘actes juridiques’), including the regulations, directives and decisions, adopted by the Council of the European Communities in the years 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985. The second new set of files pertains to the Council’s meetings held in the years 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989, while the third and last concerns the Coreper meetings taking place in the years 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989.

In all, circa 5,000 new files from the Council are now available in digital format on the HAEU database, thereby facilitating access to key documents concerning the decision-making processes taking place in the European Communities in the 1980s. These files indeed constitute a rich source of information on the work and role of the Council in the European integration process. Directly consultable online, digital access to the files of the Council ensures the protection of the original and unique paper documents, which only leave the archival repositories in exceptional circumstances such as exhibitions.
