Access to the HAEU reading room extended to six users

Posted on 11 June 2020

Due to the COVID-19 crisis and the related measures taken at the European University Institute, the reading room of the Historical Archives of the European Union was closed to the public from 11 March to 18 May 2020.

In line with the provisions of the Italian government regarding the re-opening of public libraries and archives and in compliance with the EUI’s security and safety measures, the reading room of the HAEU has re-opened its doors since Monday 18 May. Since then, the first users have come back to consult documents which, after consultation, are placed under quarantine for one week.

After this successful first step, the capacity of the reading room will, from Monday 15 June on, be increased to six users at a time, with the EUI’s Covid-19 security measures fully remaining in place. Research in the reading room is allowed under the following conditions:

1) Users must contact the HAEU prior to their visit and inform the Archives about the date and provisional time of their arrival and departure.

2) A maximum of six users at a time will be admitted in the reading room.

3) Users must wear protective masks and gloves at all time when moving in the building, and follow the security and safety instructions given by the Service Desk and reading room assistants. Gloves are however not mandatory if hands are properly washed and sanitized.

4) We advise users to prepare a list of files for consultation beforehand by searching the HAEU online inventory at: https://archives.eui.eu
