The Fondation Jean Monnet pour l’Europe launches a call for applications for its Henri Rieben grant, allowing PhD researchers from around the world to stay at the Foundation for a period of one to three months and to consult the Foundation’s various resources.
PhD candidates from all discipline are eligible to apply, with a doctoral thesis that focuses on the history or the challenges of European construction, or on the relations between Switzerland and Europe. The grant award consists in a net amount of CHF 3,000 per month in addition to the reimbursement of travel expenses (home-Lausanne-home). The selected grant holders will be based at the Ferme de Dorigny, headquarters of the Foundation, located on the campus of the University of Lausanne.
The grants allocated each academic year encourage consultation and use of the Foundation's resources, such as the private archives of Jean Monnet, Robert Schuman (European papers), Robert Marjolin, Jacques Delors (period 1985-1995), as well as the archives of the Swiss diplomat Bénédict de Tscharner and those of the European activist Franck Biancheri. The Foundation provides also a media library, a European documentation center and a rich specialized library. Grantholders can also access the resources of the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law located near the Foundation.
The Henri Rieben grant for young researchers created by the Fondation Jean Monnet pour l’Europe is dedicated to the memory of Professor Henri Rieben, the Foundation's first president from 1978 to 2005, a leading specialist in European integration. The first international call for applications was launched in January 2011 for the academic year 2011-2012.
Deadline for applications: April 11, 2021
