The internationalisation strategy of the European University Institute for 2019 – 2024 gives priority to the enhancement of scientific collaborations with the Western Balkans. The EUI aims at promoting inclusive and high quality education and research, with a view to support human capital development and knowledge-based societies. This will ultimately contribute to a more cohesive European Higher Education and Research Area, able to foster sustainable governance and growth in the EU and Westerns Balkan region.
The EUI has designed and delivered academic programmes for the Western Balkans, by advancing links between academia and society in the region. The EUI’s engagement in the Western Balkans is based on two mutually reinforcing pillars: excellent scholarship and academic training in social sciences and humanities and strengthening policy-making capacity.
