In the Interviewing and Oral History Working Group's 3rd annual workshop on interviewing, we offer participants a full day of events centred on practical approaches to interviewing. Our programme features three guest speakers who will address a broad gamut of topics, including the use of psychoanalytical techniques during and post interview; the personal and intellectual subjectivities of the interviewer; and an examination of the methodological tools we can use to reconstruct life histories.
Following this, participants will form three break-out groups chaired by our guest speakers, in which participants will present their interviewing-based projects to peers. In past iterations of the workshop this has provided participants with an excellent opportunity to discuss concrete methodological challenges and related questions. (Participants will be asked to submit a brief project outline beforehand, please consult the workshop programme for further details).
Finally, the day will culminate in a roundtable dedicated to online interviewing in which three panelists will discuss the practicalities associated with this research approach, drawing on their own experiences.
We welcome researchers and scholars from all disciplines to participate in the event, and remind first and second year EUI researchers that the workshop does offer credits. All presentations will be hybrid, and it may be possible to attend the break-out groups online.
