This two-day event is aimed at people interested in questions of museology in general, and at historians who would like to work in the field of museums and exhibitions at some point. The programme includes a variety of presentations, panel discussions, and practical work which will provide participants with a broad introduction to curation and give the opportunity to reflect on pertinent questions in the field.
On the first day (27 October 2023), the focus will be on the three main types of work carried out in museums: research, exhibiting, and communication. The speakers will talk about their work and experiences while reflecting on topics such as digitalisation, sensitive collections, the place of objects in an exhibition, accessibility, and forms of engaging with the public.
On the second day (28 October 2023), participants have the chance to get an insight into the work of the curators at Museo Galileo in Florence. This more hands-on part serves to connect the themes discussed on the first day with the everyday practice of museum work. The parts at Museo Galileo will be held in two groups (Italian and English) and places are limited to 30. The reduced museum entrance fee is 7€.
