Monica Baldi’s private papers document her parliamentary and political activities in the EU context, including as Member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 1999. The fonds is divided between the documents concerning her political activity on the one side, and, on the other, those concerning her parliamentary activity in different sectors of action – socio-cultural, humanitarian, cooperation and development, environment, agriculture, structural funds, etc.
The files related to her activities in the European Parliament include her interventions in parliamentary debates, as well as working documents, reports, draft resolutions, statements, and parliamentary questions.
The files pertaining to her political activities comprise her speeches and interventions during conferences, as well as documents related to Baldi’s political actions and humanitarian missions, meeting notes and press reviews. Complementary to her private papers is the interview she conducted in the context of the HAEU oral history project 'Collecting memories: European Parliament 1979-2019'.
Monica Stefania Baldi was, between July 1994 and July 1999, Member of the European Parliament in the Forza Europa Group (Forza Italia), member of the Bureau of the Group Union for Europe, and member of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian-Democratic Group). She acted as first Vice-Chair of the Committee on Culture, Youth, Education, Media and Sport. Furthermore, she was member of the Committee on Development and Cooperation, of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection, and of the Committee on Women's Rights. She was elected to participate in the Joint Assembly Africa, Caribbean and Pacific and the European Union (ACP-EU), where she chaired the Group on Climate Change in Small Island States. In 2001, Baldi was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies (Forza Italia Group) where she held the position of Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Commission until 2006. Active in supporting foreign policy and humanitarian actions, she was awarded the Grand Official honour of the Italian Republic in 2007.
She is Vice President of Ars Pace and of the European Parliament Former Members Association, actively contributing to the cooperative actions developed between the HAEU and the European Parliament Former Members Association (FMA). Indeed, the HAEU educational programme is organised in collaboration with FMA and involves former Members of European Parliament, including Monica Baldi, meeting with Florentine students and sharing their experiences in European politics and views on the European Union.
