As Women’s History Month comes to a close, the Historical Archives of the European Union invites readers to visit its latest online exhibit, "Women for the Unification of Europe". Curated by historians Aude Foucoin and Anastasia Remes, the exhibit highlights the pivotal but often overlooked contributions of women in the European integration process. From pioneering figures like Ursula Hirschmann and Simone Veil to the unrecognised work of women in early European administration, this exhibit sheds new light on the historical role of women in shaping Europe.
Developed to mark International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month 2025, the exhibit also includes a special section on two professors at the European University Institute in the 1990s who contributed to feminist scholarship. Featuring archival documents, photographs, and oral history interviews, this digital exhibition contributes to ongoing efforts to integrate women’s stories into the broader historical narrative of European unification.
