Access Policy

Rules Governing the Use of the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence

The policies of the Historical Archives of the European Union are governed by Council Regulation No. 354/83 amended by Council Regulation No. 2015/496 (EU), notwithstanding the application of further legislation and contractual obligations.

The historical archives of EU Institutions are open to the public after a period of 30 years. The citizens’ right to access European Parliament, Council and Commission documents prior to the period of 30 years is ruled by Regulation 1049/2001 of 30 May 2001. Provisions for the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data are laid down in Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016. The data protection rules of the European University Institute are laid in the Decision of the President No.10 of 18 February 2019.
