Intersecting Sources and Research Paths in the History of the European Construction

The Historical Archives of the European Union, in collaboration with the Direction of the Archives of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Association Friends of the HAEU organised a conference Intersecting Sources and Research Paths in the History of the European Construction. The conference took place in Paris from Thursday 30 June to Friday 1 July 2016.

Historiography of the European integration process has always been influenced by the access granted to public or private archives.

The conference brought together researchers, archivists and witnesses of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Member Countries, the European Institutions and European foundations and organisations, to review the situation on the archival fonds which had been opened in recent times to the public which concern the European integration process, as well as the most recent historical works in the field. A final round table had taken place giving an historical “stock taking” of EU current crisis and conceivable action to be developed to remedy this situation.

Programme.

Conference Venue: Auditorium - French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, 3, rue Suzanne Masson, 93126 La Courneuve (Paris). Email address: [email protected]

The conference’s proceedings resulted in a publication : "Histoire de la construction européenne (1957-2015) : sources et itinéraires de recherche croisés", Jean-Marie Palayret, Isabelle Richefort and Dieter Schlenker (coord.), 2019, by the editor Peter Lang, in the collection “Diplomacy and History” supervised by the Archives Directorate of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development.
