Exquisite art donation to the Historical Archives

Posted on 25 June 2014

Statue StaccioliThe Historical Archives of the European Union has received a valuable art donation. Paolo Staccioli, a renowned Italian artist, has granted the HAEU with his sculpture “Guerriero”, meaning the Warrior. The eloquent figure now guards the reading room of the HAEU at Villa Salviati.

“We are grateful to have such a wonderful piece of art donated to us. A generous gesture from the artist’s part”, rejoices Dieter Schlenker, Director of the HAEU.

Born in Scandicci in 1943, Paolo Staccioli presented his first solo exhibition in 1973 and has since then displayed his works of art all around the world. After having thoroughly explored the world of painting in the late 1980’s, his curiosity made him experiment with different materials such as plastic. He then moved on to the field of ceramics, moulding characters such as the Warrior.

Staccioli is renowned for his love for ceramics and strong metallic shapes. His unique expressiveness is a combination of profound knowledge of art tradition, great technical skill and refined vision.

The donation is in connection to the art exhibition opened earlier this year in the gardens of Villa Salviati.

The sculpture may be viewed during the HAEU's opening hours.
