EUI-WiFi Configuration for Android SmartPhone

The below guide has been tested on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Screenshots are taken from Gingerbread thus may slighlty differ depending on firmware version and make and customisation of your device.

Pre-requisites

  • Firmware 1.6 (Donut) or above must be installed;
  • WiFi must be enabled (depending on the make, either via hardware or software switch);
  • WiFi network settings must be set to DHCP.

Procedure

  1. Go to an area covered by the Institute's WiFi;
  2. From the home menu/desktop, tap on Applications, Settings, Wireless & networks, Wi-Fi settings;
  3. The device will now scan for available wireless networks: wait for the list to be populated;
  4. Tap EUI-WiFi from the list of available networks;
  5. All connection details will be filled in automatically [1];
  6. Change Security to 802.11x (if available);
  7. Change Authentication to PEAP;
  8. Change CA Cetificate to don't validate;
    IMPORTANT: if CA Certificate is not selectable (e.g. greyed out) please jump to step 13;
  9. Change Phase 2 Authentication to MSCHAPV2;
  10. Type in your EUI credentials as follows:

    Identity = your_EUI_username (for example jsmith)
    Password = your_EUI_password

  11. IMPORTANT: leave the Anonymous identity field (if available) blank!
  12. Jump to step 15;
  13. Select “Do not validate” in the field Online Certificate Status;
  14. Type in your EUI credentials as follows:

    Domain = iue.it
    Identity = [email protected] (for example [email protected])
    Password = your_EUI_password

  15. Tap Connect.

You now have successfully configured your device to connect to EUI-WiFi.

Whenever EUI's WiFi is in range, you will automatically connect to it and the wireless icon will show up in the status bar (usually on top of the desktop).

Please Note: to save power, Android will connect to any wireless service only when it is required. If you find at times you don't have a connection, it may be because Android has decided it has no use for it at the time.

[1] = If automatic configuration fails, fill in connection details manually.
