Programme Description

Dear Prospective Students for the Law and Logic Summer School,

We are overjoyed to announce that the 2025 Summer School will take place in person and online at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. The course will take place over six days: from Monday, 30 June to Saturday, 5 July.

This will be the twelfth year of the Summer School, which is jointly hosted by the European University Institute (Florence, Italy) and the Harvard Law School (Cambridge, Mass., U.S.A.). It is also sponsored by CIRSFID-Alma AI, the Law Department, The University of Bologna (Italy), the European Academy of Legal Theory, and the ERC Project CompuLaw. This course aims to provide thorough training in diverse logical methods to support legal analysis for students, lawyers, judges, and scholars. The course will cover the Logocratic method (a systematic approach for evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of arguments, including but not limited to legal arguments), as well as propositional logic, predicate logic, deontic logic, argumentation, and case-based reasoning.

Some of our students may also be interested in the Summer School on AI and Law, which is also planned to take place in Florence from Monday, 7 July to Friday, 11 July, and is sponsored by the European University Institute in Florence, University of Utrecht and the University of Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, we hope that you and those close to you stay well.

Very warmly,

Scott Brewer and Giovanni Sartor, on behalf of other professors in the Law and Logic Summer School.
