The first edition of the EUI Climate Week marked a milestone in the STG Climate team’s activities by bringing together actors from a variety of sectors such as civil society, public and private sectors and academia, to discuss the climate change policy agenda.
Participants engaged in the Florence Process where representatives of the key jurisdictions with emissions trading programmes from the EU, China, California, Quebec and New Zealand, addressed issues of common concern and interest. This event was jointly organised with DG Climate Action, STG Climate and the Florence School of Regulation Climate.
Following the Florence Process, a conference on carbon markets, organised together with PIK (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) and IETA (International Emissions Trading Association), discussed the latest developments in compliance markets, how to strengthen the integrity of voluntary markets, and carbon clubs and border measures.
This first edition of the EUI Climate Week was concluded by four climate sessions during the State of the Union, one of which was moderated by Jos Delbeke and discussed the EU’s goals to reach climate neutrality by 2050, and a 55% reduction of emissions by 2030.
