Correct and consistent archival practice, careful financial management, expansive and inclusive user services and continued staff professionalisation at the Historical Archives of the European Union has resulted in a successful renewal of its certification as an ISO 9001 quality management compliant operation.
The Archives learned the outcome of the most recent audit, carried out by the certification body CSQA in December 2024. The exercise included interviews with staff members and the scrutiny of purchasing workflows, the handling of archival transfers and fonds, the delivery of archival services, and staff professionalisation.
ISO 9001 quality management certification requires the Archives to review and revise its work procedures where necessary on an annual basis, and to submit to an external audit with an external certification authority. The Archives successfully applied for and obtained its initial ISO 9001 certification in 2022. It is one of the first archives in Europe to have been certified in meeting these quality management standards.
