Six scholars selected to receive International Visegrad Fund Grants at the HAEU

The Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) is pleased to announce the recent selection of six researchers for the International Visegrad Fund Research Grant Programme. The awards were granted within the framework of the 2024 call for applications.

The Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) is pleased to announce the recent selection of six researchers for the International Visegrad Fund Research Grant Programme.

Xhoana Agaci, masters student at the University of Padova, will carry out research for her thesis ‘The EEC/EU Policy towards Albania, 1970s-1990s’.

Wojciech Bialozyt will visit from the Bronisław Geremek Foundation in Poland to consult documents for his project ‘Parallel diplomacy of the Solidarity movement with European institutions 1980-1989. Setting foundations for future Europe’s re-unification’.

Péter Budai, PhD candidate at Eötvös Loránd University, will be at the archives for dissertation research on ‘The expansion of powers of the European Union concerning the protection of the environment’.

Dr Eszter Hajdu, Lusófona University and the Budapest University of Jewish Studies, will carry out historical research for a documentary on debates about the “Jewish question” in the European Parliament between 1958 -1992.

Dr Slobodan Vukadinovic, Union University School of Law, Belgrade, will examine ‘Origins and Development of Consumer Protection Aimed at Safeguarding the Single Market of the European Community and European Union (1957 to date).

Dr Tomasz Wozniakowski, University of Wroclaw, will consult documents relevant to his project ‘FIMICA: Building a Fiscal-Military Capacity in the US, Switzerland and the EU - a Comparative Historical Perspective’.

The International Visegrad Fund (IVF) and the European University Institute (EUI) launched the IVF grant programme in 2021 as a pilot project to support and encourage early career scholars from Central and Eastern Europe to develop archival research projects using the primary sources held at the HAEU. In 2022, the two organisations signed a partnership agreement confirming the grant programme at the HAEU. A total of 22 IVF grants have been awarded at the HAEU since the grant programme’s inception.
