Sandra Buchholz, Dr. rer. pol., is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Bamberg University. From 1998 till 2003 she majored in Sociology at Bielefeld University.
From 2003 till 2005, Sandra served as a research scientist in the international comparative project ‘GLOBALIFE: Life Courses in the Globalization Process’, supported by a grant of the Volkswagen Foundation. Afterwards (from 2005 till 2007), she worked in the international research project ‘flexCAREER: Flexibility Forms on the Labor Market – a Cross-National Comparison of the Development of Social Inequality’ (supported by a DFG grant). At present, she is involved in various international comparative projects (see list below).
Sandra is interested in the international comparison of education systems as well as employment and welfare regimes, social inequalities, life course research, labour market research and quantitative methods. Her research especially addresses the influence of national institutions and cultures on the structure and development of social inequalities and individual life courses.
In her dissertation she focused on the flexibilisation of labour market entry and exit processes in East and West Germany (supervisors: Prof. Dr. Dr. Hans-Peter Blossfeld and Prof. Dr. Karin Kurz). Her dissertation was honoured with the 'Universitätsbund Bamberg' Award 2008.
In February 2012, Sandra Buchholz was honoured with the award for excellent teaching of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at Bamberg University.
Sandra Buchholz currently holds the Chair of Sociology 1 at the University of Bamberg (Germany) on an interim basis.
