Dr. Jan Skopek holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Bamberg (Germany). He studied economics and business informatics at University of Erlangen/Nuremberg (Germany). From 2005 to 2010, he was a member of research staff at the department of sociology I, University of Bamberg. He finished his dissertation in 2010. From 2010 to 2013, he was heading the Research Data Center of the German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). In September 2013, he joined the eduLIFE project at the Comparative Life Course and Inequality Research Centre located at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the European University Institute.
His research activity focuses on the analysis of marriage and mate choice, the gendered division of labor in older couples, grandparenthood, and major life course transitions in later life. In theoretical terms, he is interested in modelling social processes from a life course perspective. His methodological interests relate to longitudinal methods of analyzing life course data and methods of online-research.
