Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat is a family of application software to view, create, manipulate, print and manage files in Portable Document Format (PDF), a format which allows for cross-platform distribution.

The family includes Acrobat Reader (also known as Adobe Reader) and Adobe Acrobat (also known as Adobe Pro or Acrobat): the freeware Acrobat Reader can view, print and annotate PDF files whereas the commercial Adobe Acrobat can also create, edit, convert, digitally sign, encrypt, export and publish PDF files.

In order to access PDF files either of the above needs to be installed:

Acrobat Reader is installed on all EUI desktop PCs and laptops (both Windows and Mac).  It can as well be installed freely on personally-owned computers and devices by following this link:

Please note this software is not provided nor managed by ICT Service and support should accordingly be sought by contacting Adobe Support directly.

Adobe Acrobat is available only to eligible users, who should follow the below instructions to get hold of the software on their EUI as well as personally-owned computers:

  1. Open a ticket on the EUI4U Helpdesk requesting an "Adobe Acrobat DC" license. Except for teaching staff (full-time professors), Researchers and Master Students, the request must be validated by your line manager and/or administrative Unit coordinator (whichever applies to you);
  2. Once the license has been assigned to you, two scenarios unfold:
    - if you already have Acrobat Reader installed, go to the next step;
    - if you do not have Acrobat Reader installed, jump to step 4);
  3. Start Acrobat Reader and, at the top right corner, sign in with your EUI email and password. If asked whether this is your personal or School/Enterprise account, choose the latter. The software will automatically update to the full Adobe Acrobat version (please allow a few minutes for the update to install). Jump to step 6) to continue;
  4. If you do not have Acrobat Reader installed, visit this link:

  5. When asked to sign in with your Adobe ID, make sure to use your EUI email address and password. If asked whether this is your personal or School/Enterprise account, choose the latter;
  6. Continue following the instructions of the webpage to download and install the software;
  7. Once the software is installed, you should already be signed into your Adobe account. Should this not be the case, or should you need to sign in again after an automatric update to the software, you may do so anytime by repeating step 5).
